Day 1 - Arrival to Colombo Airport | Colombo

50 Km / 1 hour

  • Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (Katunayake).
  • Meet, greet, and transfer to Colombo.
  • Evening: Colombo city tour, including Galle Face Green, Pettah Bazaar, Independence Square, and Cinnamon Gardens.

Day 2 - Colombo to Rathnapura (City of Gems)

100Km / 3 hours

  • After breakfast, proceed to Ratnapura, the heart of Sri Lanka's gem industry.
  • En route, view the surrounding tea and rubber plantations.
  • Evening: Visit a traditional gem pit and observe surface-level mining activity.

Day 3 - Gem Mining Exploration in Ratnapura
  • After breakfast, a full-day tour of working gem pits.
  • Learn the methods of traditional pit mining: vertical shafts, gravel beds, water pumping, and timber reinforcement.
  • Observe firsthand how precious gems are extracted from the earth.

Day 4 - Rathnapura to Yala

  • Morning transfer to Yala.

Day 5 - Yala National Park & Bundala Safari
  • Yala National Park & Bundala Safari
  • Afternoon: Evening safari in Bundala National Park, a Ramsar wetland famous for migratory birds.

Day 6 - Yala to Rathnapura
  • Morning: Travel back to Ratnapura.
  • Afternoon: Return to gem mining pits to observe mining in action.

Day 7 - Gem Washing & Evaluation in Ratnapura

150 Km /  3.5 hours

  • Visit a site where gem washing and sorting is performed.
  • Learn how expert miners inspect gravel for valuable stones using traditional techniques.
  • See how gems are identified by color, transparency, and structure.
  • Dinner & Overnight in Ratnapura.
Day 8  - Rathnapura to Galle & Bentota

150 Km /  4 hours

  • After breakfast, depart for Bentota via the southern coastal route.
  • Stop for a city tour of Galle, including the UNESCO World Heritage Dutch Fort.
  • Continue to Bentota beach for relaxation.
  • Dinner & Overnight in Bentota.

Day 9  - Bentota to Colombo

80 Km /  1.5 hours

  • Morning: Free time to enjoy Bentota Beach.
  • Later, return to Colombo.
  • Optional: Evening shopping or leisure time.
  • Dinner & Overnight in Colombo.
Day 10  - Colombo to Airport

50 Km /  1 hours

  • After breakfast, Colombo city highlights tour (if not covered earlier), including:
  • Pettah Market, Town Hall, BMICH, temples, and colonial buildings.
  • Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for departure.
